Liquid lipsticks…I have purposefully avoided them since my teenage years. After a bout with a popular drugstore brand, I was left with dry, cracked, and bleeding lips. Needless to say, that experience scarred me and I haven’t sought out a liquid lippie since.
Until now. After seeing Clove + Hallow’s Lip Velvets seemingly everywhere, I caved.
I chose the shade Napa, a dark pinkish-mulberry hue. This color has called out to me ever since I first saw it. It’s so rich and alluring!
I swiped it on sans lip balm to test the true nature of the formula. Within a matter of minutes, the formula dries down to a true matte finish. Beautiful. I grab my coffee, and start my day. Several sips in, I look down to check for the typical lipstick ring that is left on my cup. Not. A. Smudge.
Several hours and meals later, my lips look practically fresh still. While my lips feel dry with this on, the formula does not feel drying. Because of how matte these are, you can expect a very long wear time. In fact, I have to use oil to remove it!
A quick peek at the ingredients: it’s made with hectorite clay for that gorgeous matte finish, some silicones to coat the pigments (preventing that cakey look), and moisturizing shea butter, sunflower seed oil, and argan oil. Totally explains why these don’t completely dry out the lips while it’s on! I can’t wait to try more of these.
